About the Series

Prepare for six evenings full of musical experiences, showcasing the latest from the Czech and world contemporary music scenes. Series S brings not only premieres of works by established and emerging composers but also offers a unique opportunity to look directly into their creative workshops.

Each evening will feature a prominent figure from the Czech or Slovak cultural scene – primarily composers. In engaging discussions, they will reveal their compositional processes, sources of inspiration, and the ideas behind their works. You will then hear their music in first-class performances by members of the Prague Philharmonia and their guests.

The final concert promises to be a truly extraordinary experience. Following last year's successful program dedicated to the New York avant-garde, we continue exploring key moments of 20th-century music. Look forward to a guided concert featuring compositions by the iconic composers John Cage and Morton Feldman. The musical preparation will be undertaken by Petr Kotík, a renowned composer and conductor who collaborated personally with both giants for many years.

The concerts are hosted in the inspiring Studio of Švanda Theater in Smíchov. The spectacular June finale will resonate in the Main Hall (Velký sál) of Švanda Theater. We are delighted by the enthusiastic responses from listeners, performers, and reviewers, confirming our success in Prague in broadening horizons and pushing the boundaries of perceiving contemporary music – much like has been the custom abroad for years. Join us and become part of this growing community!
