Ovations Not Only for Josef Špaček
Female energy flowed through the fifth concert of the orchestral series. New Zealand star Gemma New conducted, and the program included the Overture No. 2 in E flat major, Op. 24 by 19th-century French composer Louise Farrenc.
The solo part was performed by internationally acclaimed violinist Josef Špaček, who rightfully received enthusiastic ovations. As an encore, he performed Sonata for Solo Violin No. 5 by Eugène Ysaÿe for the grateful audience.
The next concert in our orchestral series is scheduled for March 4. We will welcome conductor Angus Webster and cellist István Várdai. The evening's program will conclude with Schumann's technically demanding Symphony No. 2, which "is full of sunshine," as conductor Angus Webster says, expressing his strong personal affinity for the piece.
