"My Praguers understand me." Cast in bronze and mounted as a plaque on Prague's Estates Theatre, this expression of Mozart's affection for the Bohemian capital stands proud. While it's not documented whether he actually put it in these exact words, there is no doubt about his deep affection for Prague and its inhabitants. It must have been love at first sight when he first traveled to the Vltava in 1787 and received an exceptionally warm welcome.

He gladly accepted repeated invitations in the following years, and even spent time with his Prague friends during the premiere of La clemenza di Tito just two months before his death.

As Prague Philharmonia comes to Würzburg as an ambassador from Mozart's 'favorite city' and spans a musical arc from Mozart through his contemporary Leopold Koželuh to Bohemian Romanticism, the program includes a work with a special Prague connection: Haydn's Cello Concerto No. 1, which was only rediscovered in 1961 at the Czech National Museum.
