Lukáš Pospíšil

Lukáš Pospíšil began his cello studies under Professor Mirko Škampa. He graduated from the Prague Conservatory under Professor Viktor Moučka, then from the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague under Professor Miloš Sádlo. During the 1991-1992 academic year, he studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna with Professor Angelica May. While a student, he participated in numerous masterclasses led by Erkki Rautio, Heinrich Schiff, and Martin Hornstein, among others, as well as in performance competitions.
In 1983, he won 3rd prize in the Beethoven's Hradec competition, and five years later, he became the winner of the Leoš Janáček International Competition in Brno. From 1988 to 1991, he was a member of the cello section, later becoming its principal in the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, and between 2004 and 2005, he served as solo cellist in the Berlin Chamber Orchestra. He has been the Principal Cellist of the Prague Philharmonia since 1992.
Lukáš Pospíšil is also dedicated to chamber music. In 2014, he became a member of the Zeiher Quartet and regularly collaborates with violinist Jakub Fišer, the primarius of the Bennewitz Quartet, and pianist and conductor Marek Šedivý. He also performs as a soloist, both domestically and internationally (Denmark, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Jordan, and Luxembourg). He enjoys promoting works by Czech composers - for example, he performed Bohuslav Martinů's Concertino with the radio orchestra at the Schauspielhaus in Berlin (now Konzerthaus Berlin), and participated in the world premiere of Zdeněk Šesták's Concerto for Cello and Orchestra under Jakub Hrůša as part of the Czech Philharmonic cycle. In 2000, he recorded a solo CD with the Prague Philharmonia under the direction of Jiří Bělohlávek.
