Program Notes
2022 is the year of the 120th anniversary of the birth of Zoltán Kodály, a Hungarian composer, ethnomusicologist and teacher who fundamentally influenced the form and development of music education in Hungary. In his pedagogical research and studies, he focused mainly on the education of children in order to develop their singing skills and the ability to sight-read music from an early age. At the same time, he promoted the idea that adults should be able to read sheet music in the same way as if reading a book.
In addition to active pedagogical activities and composing, Kodály devoted himself from his youth to collecting Hungarian folk songs (in collaboration with Béla Bartók). Kodály was also an avid traveler and tourist.
