Marek Šedivý

Conductor and pianist Marek Šedivý is the Music Director of the Opera at the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre in Ostrava and the main guest conductor of the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra. In 2016–2018 he was the chief conductor of the Silesian Theatre in Opava, where he staged Pietro Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusticana (2016), Antonín Dvořák's Rusalka (2017), Giuseppe Verdi's Falstaff (2017) and Leoš Janáček's The Cunning Little Vixen. He has also collaborated with the State Opera in Prague (Verdi: Macbeth), the J. K. Tyl Theatre in Pilsen (Khachaturian: Spartacus; Verdi: Macbeth) and the Moravian-Silesian National Theatre (Zdeněk Fibich: The Storm and Giuseppe Verdi: Un Ballo in Maschera).

He has performed at the following music festivals: Prague Spring (2015 and 2018), Chopin Festival Mariánské Lázně (2009), Young Prague (2011), Dvořák's Prague (2012, 2020), Pardubice Music Spring (2016 and 2018), Mozartfest Würzburg (2016) and the International Gluck Opera Festival Nürnberg (2014 and 2016). In September 2019 he made his debut in Vienna with the Tonkünstler Orchestra, where he performed Dvořák's Requiem, and toured with the Krakow Beethoven Academy Orchestra in China. In the 2012/2013 season, on the recommendation of Jiří Bělohlávek, he was engaged as an assistant conductor in the production of Wagner's opera Tristan and Isolde at the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto. In January 2015, he recorded two piano concerti (Nos. 1 and No. 4) by Ludwig van Beethoven for Sony with Chinese pianist Fang Yuan and the BBC Symphony Orchestra.

Marek Šedivý was the Artistic Director of the Ensemble Terrible at the Prague Academy of Music, focused on contemporary music by young composers. He is a graduate of conducting from the Prague Conservatoire and the Faculty of Music of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. In 2017, he was awarded a scholarship by the Wagner Society Bayreuther Festspiele 2017.
