Marcelo Lehninger

The Brazilian conductor Marcelo Lehninger is a Music Director of the Grand Rapids Symphony, with which he performed in 2018 at the famous Carnegie Hall. His engagements in the past seasons included collaboration with orchestras: St. Louis Symphony, San Antonio Symphony and Sarasota Orchestra and collaboration with the renowned Boston Symphony Orchestra and Rochester Philharmonic. In the past, as a guest conductor, he worked with a number of orchestral ensembles in the USA (Chicago, Boston), Canada (Toronto, Calgary), Europe (Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Lucerne Symphony Orchestra) and Australia (Sydney, Melbourne).

In 2007/2008 he was Music Advisor of the Youth Orchestra of the Americans; in 2008 this ensemble with Lehninger and the Brazilian pianist Nelson Freire toured South America (Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay). In the same year, the American Friends of Mendelssohn Foundation awarded him the First Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy Scholarship. The award was initiated by the German maestro Kurt Masur, with whom Lehninger as Assistant Conductor continued working in the following years (Orchestre National de France, Gewandhaus Orchestra and New York Philharmonic).

Apart from conducting he also studied violin and piano.
