Julian Rachlin

Julian Rachlin

The violinist, violist and conductor Julian Rachlin is undoubtedly a true celebrity in the world of classical music. A pupil of Pinchas Zukerman, he won the Eurovision Competition in 1988, and at the age of thirteen was the youngest ever soloist to debut with the Vienna Philharmonic conducted by Riccardo Muti. Since then he has built a truly global career, which has included working with Mariss Jansons, Valery Gergiev, Christoph Eschenbach, Manfred Honeck, Myung-Whun Chung, Riccardo Chailly, Zubin Mehta and many other international conductors. Several composers have dedicated their works to him, including Krzysztof Penderecki. His recordings have been produced by leading international labels such as Sony Classical, WarnerClassics and Deutsche Grammophon.

Today he divides his time between his career as a soloist and a conductor. He is the principal guest conductor of the Royal Northern Sinfonia, the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra and the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra. As a conductor he has toured Europe with the English Chamber Orchestra and has worked with the Royal Philharmonic in Liverpool, the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana and the Royal Northern Sinfonia.

He first performed with the PKF — Prague Philharmonia at Prague Spring 2018 as part of his artist in residence. He is the director of the festival Julian Rachlin & Friends in Palma de Mallorca and has his own concert series at Vienna’s Musikverein. Alongside his many artistic activities he also devotes himself to charity work and educational programmes. In 2010 he was chosen as a UNICEF ambassador and a member of the Young Global Leaders at the World Economic Forum. He plays a Stradivarius “ex Liebig” from 1704.
