Jan Souček

Oboist Jan Souček is a laureate of several international competitions - Prague Spring 2008 (3rd prize) and Lodz 2005 (1st prize), as well as a semi-finalist in the international competitions in Geneva (2010) and Kuruizawa, Japan (2006). In 2001, he was a member of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra.

Since 2006, he has been working as an oboist with the Prague Philharmonia and currently also with the State Opera Orchestra.

He is also establishing himself as a chamber musician, performing with Trio Arundo, which was awarded the Czech Chamber Music Society Prize in 2011, and with the Belfiato Quintet, with which he won 3rd prize in the International Wind Quintet Competition "Henri Tomasi" in Marseille, France. He regularly collaborates with Ensemble Prague Modern and Ostravská banda, which focus on the interpretation of contemporary music.

Jan Souček studied at the Prague Conservatory in the class of F. X. Thuri and at the Music Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague with Jana Brožková. He completed an internship at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Lyon in the class of Jean-Louis Capezzali and Jérôme Guichard.
