Prague Philharmonia & George Li
32–60 €
Prague Philharmonia, ambassador of Czech culture and pioneer of innovative music education in the Czech Republic, boasts – despite a history spanning as few as three decades – an impressive discography (more than 90 CDs) of multi-award-winning recordings released under illustrious record companies, including Deutsche Grammophon, Decca, Warner Classics, Sony Classical.
Founded on the initiative of the legendary Jiří Bělohlávek, the orchestra has been enjoying further international successes under the baton of Emmanuel Villaume (since 2016), also the Music Director of Opera Dallas, and onetime Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra.
Although known for his affinity for unconventional repertoire, the maestro is returning to Ljubljana with a standard programme dedicated to the giants of Czech romanticism: commemorating the 200th anniversary of the birth of Bedřich Smetana and the 120th anniversary of the death of Antonín Dvořák. Placed at the heart of the programme, Rachmaninoff’s melodically rich and emotionally charged piano concerto will be interpreted by one of the hottest new names, George Li, winner of the Silver Medal at the prestigious Tchaikovsky Competition (2015).
The concert is realized with the financial participation of the EU through the National Restoration Plan and the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.
