Christmas Cantata (world premiere)
Luboš Fišer
Christmas carols for recitation, solos, choir, organ and orchestra
It seems that Fišer's Christmas carols are becoming a traditional part of the Prague Philharmonic Choir's Advent concerts. And it seems that the performance of world premieres is also becoming a tradition of Christmas concerts, although much less frequent. In 2018, a trio of pieces composed by composer Jan Dušek and dedicated to choirmaster Lukáš Vasilík were performed. And this year, exactly five years later, concert-goers can look forward to another premiere.
The Prague Philharmonic Choir has commissioned a Christmas cantata by the young Czech composer Jan Ryant Dřízal. The three-part composition for mixed choir, soloists and orchestra will symbolically take the audience through the entire Christmas season.
The text of the composition is inspired by carols from different parts of Europe, so that several languages more or less familiar to singers are used in one piece. The standard orchestral scoring is complemented by a range of percussion instruments including bells, tambourine and cowbells.
