Violist Stanislav Svoboda was born in 1970 in Uherské Hradiště. He studied at the P. J. Vejvanovský Conservatory in Kroměříž with Miloslav Jiří Masařík. Already in his second year, he achieved success at the Czech Conservatories Competition and went on to receive several further distinctions, including second and first prizes at the Beethoven’s Hradec competition. He subsequently studied at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague in the class of Jan Pěruška, graduating in 1995.
While still a student, he became a member of the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, performing alongside young musicians from across Europe at major European venues under internationally renowned conductors including Claudio Abbado, Václav Neumann, James Judd, and Manfred Honeck.
In 1992, he joined the New Czech Chamber Orchestra, which later formed the foundation of the Prague Chamber Philharmonia. As a chamber musician, he performs regularly in Prague Philharmonia’s chamber music series and has also appeared with various ensembles, including the Kocian Quartet. He has performed as a soloist with Prague Philharmonia and the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra.
His repertoire ranges from Baroque music to contemporary works. He currently serves as Principal Viola of Prague Philharmonia and, since October 2017, has also been a member of the State Opera Orchestra.
