Mikuláš Koska was born in 1988. He began playing the French horn at the age of nine under Jan Dajč and later continued his studies at the Janáček Conservatory in Ostrava with Karel Doležal and at the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts in Brno in the class of Jindřich Petráš.
While still a student, he attracted attention by winning prizes at several national and international competitions. He is a multiple first-prize winner at the Brno International Brass Competition, was named overall winner of the Czech Conservatories Competition, and also took part in the ARD International Music Competition in Munich. He further developed his artistry at horn masterclasses in the Czech Republic and abroad, studying with such distinguished players as Hermann Baumann and Peter Damm.
In 2004, he was awarded third prize in the international round of the Concertino Praga radio competition, where no first prize was awarded. This led to his participation in masterclasses in Bonn with Marie-Luise Neunecker.
Mikuláš Koska is Principal Horn of Prague Philharmonia and is also a member of the Czech Philharmonic. A sought-after soloist, he also performs with the Prague Philharmonia Wind Quintet, where he succeeded the late horn player Jan Musil.
