Ivana Švestková Dohnalová

Ivana Dohnalová started to study harp at the Janáček Conservatory in 1998, in the class of Ms Ada Balová. She finished her six-year studies by graduating in 2004. Then she studied at Prague Conservatory in the class of doc. Mgr. Jana Boušková, who was also her teacher during her studies at the Academy of Music in Prague where she graduated in 2011. 

Between 2012 – 2015 she was a teacher at the Janáček Conservatory and Gymnasium in Ostrava and since September 2016 she teaches at Brno Conservatory. Since August 2008 she is the principal harpist of the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra, since 2006 she cooperates regularly also with the PKF – Prague Philharmonia. Since concert season 2011/2012 she cooperates with the Latvian National symphony orchestra in Riga and since 2013 she also cooperates with Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern. She is a member of the Ostravská banda  – an international orchestra specialized in contemporary music. She performs with Baborak Ensemble in a project called Orquestrina. Since 2017 she occasionally cooperates with ORF- Radio Symphony Orchestra in Vienna.  
 
Ivana Dohnalová participated in the 8th World Harp Congress in Geneva in 2002. In 2002 she was granted the Magdaléna Jakubská  scholarship, on the proposal of the director of Janáček Conservatory, by which she got the possibility  to participate in summer master courses at the American university the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, led by Ms Kathleen Bride. She performed in all previous festivals the Harp Days of Ostrava, where she in 2004 presented, together with Magdaléna Franková, the Czech premiere of a double concerto for oboe, harp and chamber orchestra by Witold Lutoslawský, accompanied by the Janáček chamber orchestra. She performed as a soloist with the international student orchestra Europera in Germany, Poland,  Italy and  in the Czech Republic in the concert season in 2006/2007. In 2007 she performed together with the members of the Prague Philharmonia in the Paul Klee Centre in Bern. In June 2008 she participated in the Mitte Europa festival in Sohland. 
 
As a soloist she has performed with PKF – Prague Philharmonia, Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra, Brno Philharmonic Orchestra, String orchestra of the Prague Conservatory, Chamber orchestra of Leoš Janáček, Collegium 21, Ostravská banda, Kubín quartet and with international student orchestra Europera. Since 2009 she cooperates with an oboist Jaroslava Tajanovská, in April 2010 they performed together at a music festival in Turkey.
