Symphony no. 3 in E-flat major, Op. 55, "Eroica"

On May 7, 2026, we will perform at the Castelló Music Festival 2026 under the baton of conductor Jiří Habart.

The evening opens with a tribute to Mozart’s Prague: the overture to La clemenza di Tito, composed for the coronation of Leopold II as King of Bohemia and first performed in 1791 at the Estates Theatre in Prague. This ceremonial and festive work reflects the close bond between Mozart and a city that embraced his music with remarkable enthusiasm.

The second part of the program showcases the orchestra’s string section in Metamorphosen for 23 solo strings by Richard Strauss. Written in the final months of World War II, the piece is a deeply introspective meditation on loss, memory, and cultural devastation, forming a striking contrast to the opening work.

The concert culminates in one of the cornerstones of the symphonic repertoire: Symphony No. 3 in E-flat major, Op. 55 “Eroica” by Ludwig van Beethoven. Monumental in scale and revolutionary in spirit, the work also creates a subtle inner link across the program, as the theme of its funeral march reappears in the closing bars of Strauss’s Metamorphosen.
